XRP7664-65-74-75 2A/3A 18V Synchronous Step-Down Regulator, Constant frequency (XRP7664-65), Light-Load efficiency (XRP7674-75) August 2014 Rev. 2.0.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION EVALUATION BOARD MANUAL The EXAR XRP76XX Evaluation kit is a fully assembled and tested surface-mount PCB that demonstrates the XRP7664, XRP7665, XRP7674 and XRP7675 synchronous buck regulators. The current-mode switching regulator generates a preset 3.3V output with a load of up to 2A (XRP7664, XRP7674) and 3A (XRP7665, XRP7675). The EVB kit requires a single input voltage VIN source if EN is tied to VIN via jumper J1 (default setting as supplied from EXAR). Connect a 0.01uF or larger bootstrap capacitor between the BS pin and BS 1 the SW pin. The voltage across the bootstrap capacitor drives the internal high-side power MOSFET. Supply input pin. A capacitor should be connected between the IN pin and GND pin to IN 2 keep the input voltage constant. Power switch output pin. This pin is connected to the inductor and the bootstrap SW 3 capacitor. GND 4 Ground pin. Feedback pin. An external resistor divider connected to FB programs the output voltage. If the feedback pin exceeds 1.1V the over-voltage protection will trigger. If the FB 5 feedback voltage drops below 0.3V the oscillator frequency is lowered to short-circuit protection. Compensation pin. This is the output of transconductance error amplifier and the input COMP 6 to the current comparator. It is used to compensate the control loop. Connect an RC network form this pin to GND. Control input pin. EN 7 Drive EN high/low in order to turn on/off the regulator. When the IC is in shutdown mode all functions are disabled to decrease the supply current below 0.1µA nominal. Soft-start control input pin. Connect a capacitor from SS to GND to set the soft-start SS 8 period. A 0.1µF capacitor sets the soft start period to 15ms. To disable the soft-start feature, leave SS unconnected. XRP7664-65-74-75 2A/3A 18V Synchronous Step-Down Regulator, Constant frequency (XRP7664-65), Light-Load efficiency (XRP7674-75) USING THE EVALUATION BOARD supplied from EXAR with jumper set at left- side (position marked EN=VIN). This allows for INITIAL SETUP automatic startup of the XRP76XX regulator when VIN is applied. Set the input supply to 12V and connect it to VIN and GND connectors on the left side of the SETTING THE OUTPUT VOLTAGE evaluation board. Connect the load to the VOUT and GND connectors at the right side of Use an external resistor divider to set the the board. Check to make sure that jumper J1 output voltage.
