Introduction www.ti.com 1 Introduction 1.1 Requirements TooperatethisEVMproperly,connectandproperlyconfigurethefollowingcomponents: Apersonalcomputer(PC)withaUSBportisrequiredtooperatethisEVM.TheTPS62350interface softwarerunsonthePCandcommunicateswiththeEVMviathePC’sUSBport.Commandscanbe senttotheinternalregistersoftheTPS62350throughtheUSBport. PersonalComputerRequirements • Microsoft®Windows® 2000orWindowsXPoperatingsystem • USBport • Minimumof30MBoffreeharddiskspace(100MBrecommended) • Minimumof256MBofRAM Printed-CircuitBoardAssembly TheTPS62350EVM-201PCBcontainstheTPS62350ICanditsrequiredexternalcomponents.This boardcontainsseveraljumpersandconnectorsthatenabletheusertocustomizetheboardfor specificoperatingconditions. USBInterfaceAdapter TheUSBinterfaceadapteristhelinkthatallowsthePCandtheEVMtocommunicate.Oneendofthe USBinterfaceadapterconnectstothePCwiththesuppliedUSBcable;theothersideoftheUSB interfaceadapterconnectstotheEVMwiththesuppliedribboncable. WhenacommandiswrittentotheEVM,theinterfaceprogramrunningonthePCsendsthe commandstothePCUSBport.TheUSBinterfaceadapterreceivestheUSBcommand,convertsthe signaltoanI2Cprotocol,andsendstheI2CsignaltotheTPS62350EVMboard Software TexasInstrumentsprovidessoftwaretoassistinevaluatingthisEVM.Thesoftwarecanbeinstalled fromthesuppliedCDordownloadedfromtheTexasInstrumentsWebsiteatwww.ti.com. 2 Setup ThissectiondescribesthejumpersandconnectorsontheEVMaswellashowtoproperlyconnect,set up,andusetheTPS62350EVM-201. 2.1 Input/Output Connector Descriptions 2.1.1 J1–VIN Thisisthepositiveinputsupplyvoltagetotheconverter.Theleadstotheinputsupplyshouldbetwisted andkeptasshortaspossibletominimizeEMItransmission. 2.1.2 J2–GND Thisisthereturnconnectionfortheinputpowersupplyoftheconverter. 2.1.3 J3–I2CInput ThisconnectoristheI2Cinputfortheconverter. 2.1.4 J4–SYNCINPUT ThisconnectorisusedtosynchronizetheswitchingoftheTPS62350toanexternalclocksource.Pin1of J4connectstotheSYNCpinoftheTPS62350.Pin2ofJ4isconnectedtothegroundoftheTPS62350. www.ti.com Setup 2.1.5 J5–VOUT Thisisthepositiveconnectionfromtheoutputoftheconverter.Connectthispintothepositiveinputofthe load. 2.1.6 J6–GND Thisisthereturnconnectionfortheoutputoftheconverter. 2.1.7 JP1– SDAConverter1 ThisjumperisusedtotietheI2CSDApinoftheTPS62350toeithera10-kΩ pullupresistortotheinput voltageortoshorttheSDApintoground.TheshuntcanberemovediftheI2Cmasterhasitsownpullup oroperatesfromavoltagethatisdifferentthantheinputvoltageoftheTPS62350.TheTexasInstruments USBinterfaceadapterprovidesanactivepullup;therefore,donotinstallajumperwhenusingtheadapter suppliedwiththeEVM. 2.1.8 JP2– SCLConverter1 ThisjumperisusedtotietheI2CSCLpinoftheTPS62350toeithera10-kΩ pullupresistortotheinput voltageortoshortSCLtoground.TheshuntcanberemovediftheI2Cmasterhasitsownpullupor operatesfromavoltagethatisdifferentthantheinputvoltageoftheTPS62350.TheTexasInstruments USBinterfaceadapterprovidesanactivepullup;therefore,donotinstallajumperwhenusingtheadapter suppliedwiththeEVM. 2.1.9 JP4– ENABLEConverter1 Thisjumperenablesordisablestheconverter.ConnecttheshortingjumperfromthecenterENABLEpin toeithertheONorOFFposition.Neverleavethispinfloating. 2.1.10 JP3– VSELConverter2 Thisjumperisusedtoselecttheoutputvoltageoftheconverter.Placingashuntbetweenpins1and2 (HIGHandVSEL)setstheoutputvoltageoftheconvertertothevoltagedefinedbytheinternalVSEL1 register.Placingashuntbetweenpins2and3(VSELandLOW)setstheoutputvoltageoftheconverter tothevoltagedefinedbytheinternalVSEL0register. 2.2 Software Setup IfinstallingfromaCD,inserttheCDandrunSetup.exe;followallthepromptstoinstallthesoftware. IfinstallingfromtheTIWebsite,gototheURL,www.ti.com NOTE: ThisinstallationpageisbestviewedwithMicrosoftInternetExplorerbrowser(Itmaynot workcorrectlywithotherbrowsers) Clickontheinstallbutton;yourPCshouldgiveyouasecuritywarningandaskifyouwanttoinstallthis application.SelectInstalltoproceed. Withbothtypesofinstallation,thesoftwareattemptstoinstalltheMicrosoftDotNetFramework2.0(ifitis notalreadyinstalled)Thisframeworkisrequiredforthesoftwaretorun. Afterinstallation,thesoftwareshouldautomaticallyrun. Duringfutureuseofthesoftware,itmaypromptyoutoinstallanewversionifonebecomesavailableon theWeb. Setup www.ti.com 2.3 Hardware Setup ConfigureJP1,JP2,JP3,andJP4usingashortingblock.ThesejumpersareusedtoconnecttheSDA andSCLlinesoftheI2Cinterfacetoapullupresistortotheinputvoltage.TheUSBinterfaceadapter suppliedwiththeEVMhasitsowninternalpullupresistors;therefore,noadditionalpullupisrequired.No jumperisnecessaryiftheTexasInstrumentsUSBinterfaceadapterisusedtocommunicatewiththe TPS62350EVMboard,andJP1andJP2shouldbeleftopen. ConfigurethejumperonJP3tothedesiredsetting.ShortingbetweenVSELandHIGH(pins1and2) makestheTPS62350powerupwiththeoutputvoltagesetbytheVSEL1register.Shortingbetween VSELandLOW(pins2and3)makestheTPS62350powerupwiththeoutputvoltagesetbytheVSEL0 register. ConfigureJP4asdesired.ShortingbetweenENandON(pins1and2)enablestheTPS62350.Shorting betweenENandOFF(pins2and3)disablestheTPS62350. ThesuppliedsoftwareisusedtocommunicatewiththeTPS62350EVM.Clickontheicononthehost computertostartthesoftware.ThesoftwareaskswhichversionoftheICisontheboard.Checkthe TPS62350box,andclickthecontinue box.Thesoftwaredisplaysthemaincontrolpanelfortheuser interface.Wheninitialized,thehostcomputersoftwareautomaticallysearchesontheInternet(if connected)forupdates.Ifanewupdateisavailable,thesoftwarenotifiestheuseroftheupdateand downloadsit. Themaincontrolpanelfortheuserinterfacehasthreemainpagetabs, EVMConfiguration,Output Controls,andPreferences.Thesoftwareinitializeswiththe EVMConfigurationtabselected.Thispage canbeusedtosetregistervaluesthatcorrespondtothehardwareconfigurationoftheEVM.TheEVM canbeoperatedwiththedefaultvalues. Figure1 showstheuserinterfacewiththe OutputControltabselected.Thispageisusedtochangethe outputvoltageoftheTPS62350viatheregistersettings.Thepagehastwopulldownboxes,onefor VSEL0andoneforVSEL1,withtheavailableoutputvoltage.Thevoltageslistedintheboxesassume PWMmodeofoperation,sotheactualoutputvoltageoftheEVMvariesfromthelistedvaluesatlight loads. Operation www.ti.com Figure2 showsthepageofthe Preferencestab.The Preferences pageisusedtochangethelookofthe userinterfacesuchasthetextcolororthecoloroftheboxesusedtodisplayalogic1or0intheregister displays.ThePreferencespagealsoprovidesanoptionforcross-linkingthevaluesintheVSEL0and VSEL1registerswithinaselectablepercentage.Thedefaultisnocross-linking.Ifcross-linkingisenabled, thenthedifferencebetweenVSEL0andVSEL1cannotexceedtheselectedpercentage.Thisfeature providesamethodtolimittheratioofvoltagesthatcanbeselected.Thiscanbeusedtoavoid inadvertentlyselectingoutputvoltages,intheoutputvoltagepull-downboxes,thataretoohighforthe applicationbeingtested. STANDARDTERMSFOREVALUATIONMODULES 1. Delivery:TIdeliversTIevaluationboards,kits,ormodules,includinganyaccompanyingdemonstrationsoftware,components,and/or documentation which maybe providedtogether orseparately (collectively,an “EVM”or “EVMs”)totheUser (“User”)inaccordance withthetermssetforthherein.User'sacceptanceoftheEVMisexpresslysubjecttothefollowingterms. 1.1 EVMsareintendedsolelyforproductorsoftwaredevelopersforuseinaresearchanddevelopmentsettingtofacilitatefeasibility evaluation, experimentation, or scientific analysis of TI semiconductors products. EVMs have no direct function and are not finished products. EVMs shall not be directly or indirectly assembled as a part or subassembly in any finished product. For clarification,anysoftwareorsoftwaretoolsprovidedwiththeEVM(“Software”)shallnotbesubjecttothetermsandconditions setforthhereinbutrathershallbesubjecttotheapplicabletermsthataccompanysuchSoftware 1.2 EVMsarenotintendedforconsumerorhouseholduse.EVMsmaynotbesold,sublicensed,leased,rented,loaned,assigned, or otherwise distributed for commercial purposes by Users, in whole or in part, or used in any finished product or production system. 2 LimitedWarrantyandRelatedRemedies/Disclaimers: 2.1 ThesetermsdonotapplytoSoftware.Thewarranty,ifany,forSoftwareiscoveredintheapplicableSoftwareLicense Agreement. 2.2 TIwarrantsthattheTIEVMwillconformtoTI'spublishedspecificationsforninety(90)daysafterthedateTIdeliverssuchEVM toUser.Notwithstandingtheforegoing,TIshallnotbeliableforanonconformingEVMif(a)thenonconformitywascausedby neglect,misuseormistreatmentbyanentityotherthanTI,includingimproperinstallationortesting,orforanyEVMsthathave beenalteredormodifiedinanywaybyanentityotherthanTI,(b)thenonconformityresultedfromUser'sdesign,specifications or instructions for such EVMs or improper system design, or (c) User has not paid on time. Testing and other quality control techniques are used to the extent TI deems necessary. TI does not test all parameters of each EVM. User'sclaimsagainstTIunderthisSection2arevoidifUserfailstonotifyTIofanyapparentdefectsintheEVMswithinten(10) businessdaysafterdelivery,orofanyhiddendefectswithten(10)businessdaysafterthedefecthasbeendetected. 2.3 TI's sole liability shall be at its option to repair or replace EVMs that fail to conform to the warranty set forth above, or credit User's account for such EVM. TI's liability under this warranty shall be limited to EVMs that are returned during the warranty periodtotheaddressdesignatedbyTIandthataredeterminedbyTInottoconformtosuchwarranty.IfTIelectstorepairor replace such EVM, TI shall have a reasonable time to repair such EVM or provide replacements. Repaired EVMs shall be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period.
