RClamp0521P Ultra-Low Capacitance 1-Line ESD protection PPRROOTTEECCTTIIOONN PPRROODDUUCCTTSS - RailClamp PRELIMINARY Description Features RailClamp TVS arrays are ultra low capacitance ESD u Transient protection for data lines to protection devices designed to protect high speed IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) ±15kV (air), ±8kV (contact) data interfaces. This series has been specifically IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT) 40A (tp = 5/50ns) designed to protect sensitive components which are Cable Discharge Event (CDE) connected to high-speed data and transmission lines u Ultra-small package (1.0 x 0.6 x 0.5mm) from overvoltage caused by ESD (electrostatic dis- u Protects one data or I/O line charge), CDE (Cable Discharge Events), and EFT u Low capacitance: 0.5pF (electrical fast transients). u Low clamping voltage The RClamp0521P has a maximum capacitance of u Low operating voltage: 5.0V only 0.50pF. The device is bidirectional and may be used on lines where the signal polarity is positive and negative. Circuit Board Layout Recommendations for Suppres- sion of ESD. Good circuit board layout is critical for the suppression of ESD induced transients. The following guidelines are recommended: l Place the TVS near the input terminals or connec- tors to restrict transient coupling. l Minimize the path length between the TVS and the protected line. l Minimize all conductive loops including power and ground loops. l The ESD transient return path to ground should be kept as short as possible. l Never run critical signals near board edges. l Use ground planes whenever possible.  2012 Semtech Corporation 4 www.semtech.com
