SAW Components B3742 SAW filter 400.00 MHz Data sheet Matching network to 50 W (element values depend on pcb layout and equivalent circuit) L = 47 nH s1 L = 47 nH s2 Minimising the crosstalk Foragoodultimaterejectionalowcrosstalkisnecessary.Lowcrosstalkcanberealisedwithagood RF layout. The major crosstalk mechanism is caused by the “ground-loop” problem. Grounding loops are created if input-and output transducer GND are connected on the top-side of the PCB and fed to the system grounding plane by a common via hole. To avoid the common groundpath,thegroundpinoftheinput-andoutputtransducerarefedtothesystemgroundplane (bottomPCBplane)bytheirownviahole.Thetransducers’groundingpinsshouldbeisolatedfrom the upper grounding plane. A common GND inductivity of 0.5nH degrades the ultimate rejection (crosstalk) by 20dB. The optimised PCB layout, including matching network for transformation to 50 Ohm, is shown here. In this PCB layout the grounding loops are minimised to realise good ultimate rejection Optimised PCB layout for SAW filters in DCC6E package, pinning 1,4 (top side, scale 1:1) The bottom side is a copper plane (system ground area). The input and output grounding pins are isolated and connected to the common ground by separated via holes. For good contact of the upper grounding area with the lower side it is necessary to place enough via holes. SAW Components B3742 SAW filter 400.00 MHz Data sheet ESD protection of SAW filters SAW filters are Electro Static Discharge sensitive devices. To reduce the probability of damages caused by ESD, special matching topologies have to be applied. In general, “ESD matching” has to be ensured at that filter port, where electrostatic discharge is expected. Electrostatic discharges predominantly appear at the antenna input of RF receivers. Therefore only the input matching of the SAW filter has to be designed to short circuit or to block the ESD pulse. Below two figures show recommended “ESD matching” topologies. Depending on the input impedance of the SAW filter and the source impedance, the needed component values have to be determined from case to case. Ls3 Ls3 1 C to output to output Lp2 Dp1 Lp2 ML matching matching Fig. 1 MLC varistor plus ESD matching Fig.2SuppressordiodeplusESDmatching In cases where minor ESD occur, following simplified “ESD matching” topologies can be used alternatively. Ls2 Cs1 to output to output Lp1 matching Lp2 matching Fig. 3 shunt L – series L matching Fig. 4 series C – shunt L matching Effectiveness of the applied ESD protection has to be checked according to relevant industry standards or customer specific requirements. Important notes The following applies to all products named in this publication: 1. Somepartsofthispublicationcontainstatementsaboutthesuitabilityofourproductsfor certain areas of application. These statements are based on our knowledge of typical requirements that are often placed on our products in the areas of application concerned. We nevertheless expressly point out that such statements cannot be regarded as binding statements about the suitability of our products for a particular customer application. As a rule, EPCOS is either unfamiliar with individual customer applications or less familiar with them than the customers themselves. For these reasons, it is always ultimately incumbent on the customer to check and decide whether an EPCOS product with the properties described in the product specification is suitable for use in a particular customer application. 2. We also point out that in individual cases, a malfunction of electronic components or failure before the end of their usual service life cannot be completely ruled out in the current state of the art, even if they are operated as specified. In customer applications requiring a very high level of operational safety and especially in customer applications in which the malfunction or failure of an electronic component could endanger human life or health (e.g. in accident prevention or life-saving systems), it must therefore be ensured by means of suitable design of the customer application or other action taken by the customer (e.g. installation of protective circuitry or redundancy) that no injury or damage is sustained by third parties in the event of malfunction or failure of an electronic component. 3. The warnings, cautions and product-specific notes must be observed. 4. In order to satisfy certain technical requirements, some of the products described in this publicationmaycontainsubstancessubjecttorestrictionsincertainjurisdictions(e.g. because they are classed as hazardous). Useful information on this will be found in our Material Data Sheets on the Internet (www.epcos.com/material). Should you have any more detailed questions, please contact our sales offices. 5. We constantly strive to improve our products. Consequently, the products described in this publication may change from time to time. The same is true of the corresponding product specifications. Please check therefore to what extent product descriptions and specifications contained in this publication are still applicable before or when you place an order. We also reserve the right to discontinue production and delivery of products. Conse- quently, we cannot guarantee that all products named in this publication will always be available. The aforementioned does not apply in the case of individual agreements deviating from the foregoing for customer-specific products. 6. Unless otherwise agreed in individual contracts, all orders are subject to the current version of the “General Terms of Delivery for Products and Services in the Electrical Industry” published by the German Electrical and Electronics Industry Association (ZVEI). 7.
